Rachael Snowdon-Poole

After obtaining a degree in Theology at Newcastle University in 2002, Rachael successfully completed a PGCE in Primary Education at Nottingham Trent University before beginning her teaching career at one of our Trust schools.

Rachael’s classroom experience spans all primary age groups and she has worked in four of our Trust schools. This has given her a firm grounding in the subject and pedagogical knowledge necessary to design a highly effective curriculum and to empower others to do the same.

A particular interest for Rachael is cognitive load theory – the idea that learning is a change to long term memory. Indeed, Rachael’s expertise centres around curriculum design, SEND, memory, assessment and safeguarding.

At the end of her RQT year, Rachael became the Key Stage 1 and Early Years lead at one of our Trust schools. A few years later, she then took up an Assistant Headship at St George’s, Derby, before becoming Deputy Head and then Headteacher (interspersed with periods of Executive Headship in two of our Trust schools).

In recent years, Rachael has become part of the School Improvement Team. She is now delighted to be working across our Trust in the capacity of Primary Director of Performance and Standards, with responsibility for safeguarding across the Trust. Rachael is a serving inspector for both the Diocese of Nottingham and Ofsted.
