Helena Carrezedo
Born in Portugal, Helena’s parents emigrated to South Africa when she was very young. Once leaving school she completed her degree at Wits university and then a Post Graduate Certificate in Primary Education. She taught in primary schools in South Africa until 1996. In the following year, she emigrated with her husband and two children to the United Kingdom where she secured a job in a Catholic school in the Diocese of Nottingham. Over the subsequent 23 years, Helena has worked in Catholic education as a class teacher, Special Needs Coordinator, Deputy Headteacher and for the last 14 years as a Headteacher.
She strives to ensure that Christ is at the centre of all the work we do in schools. She believes that developing the leadership skills of her colleagues and the children we care for is essential in promoting our Catholic ethos. Helena has worked as a mentor for other headteachers in the Diocese in developing their role as Catholic leaders. Since retiring, she has been involved in a project with local schools in supporting the smooth transition between the primary and secondary phases. She is passionate about Catholic education and ensuring that the children are at the heart of everything we do. She also believes that there needs to be a balance between the expectation required of staff in our schools and their mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing.
